The best mountain runners in the world will be meeting at Action Mount Penken on Sunday, 31st July 2011 to battle it out for world cup points in the third year of this gruelling race.
This offical Grand Prix Race will be held according to the statutes of the International Association of Athletics Federation (IAAF).
The mountain run starts in the centre of Mayrhofen. Athletes will complete the first few kilometres on the Harakiri-Route of the Run & Walk Park. This was created in 2007 by the Mayrhofen Tourist Board in co-operation with former junior world mountain running champion, Markus Kröll, in order to be able to offer guests diverse jogging and Nordic Walking trails in and around Mayrhofen. After this section of the route along the Run & Walk Parks, the favourites will soon be leaving the rest of the pack behind on the steep ascent to the village of Astegg. The finishing line is at the Gschößwand Guest House, a challenging 1,250 metres in altitude above Mayrhofen, which spectators can conveniently access using the Penken cable car.
